November 7th, 2023
The Cancel the Condos team and broader Rancho community showed up at Burbank City Hall and called in, urging City Council to agendize an Urgency Ordinance before the end of 2023 to enable Jan 1 2024 SB 423 protections of equestrian neighborhoods from SB 35 development. Cancel the Condos team and the broader Rancho community showed up and advocated for an extension of the Urgency Ordinance adopted on December 10th, to afford the City of Burbank more time before SB 423 sunsets to complete the Rancho Specific Plan, which would protect the Rancho from SB35 development into the future. The council voted unanimously to approve the Ordinance, however disclosed that they had not yet begun work on the Rancho Specific Plan in the past year. Cancel the Condos will continue to demand that the city of Burbank prioritize the development of the Rancho Specific Plan.

Cancel the Condos and the broader Rancho community packed Burbank City Hall until so over capacity that there was a line out the door. Community members gave impressive and formidable public comment, despite being limited to 1 minute each. Burbank City Council insisted that their hands are tied from rejecting SB35 applications, and despite multiple council members verbalizing reluctance, unanimously voted to approve the Mariposa 2 application. Lawsuit #2 to come!
